About the Department

The Department of Botany was established in 2010 at MGV Arts, Science and Commerce College Surgana. The department has grown into a well-recognized Centre in tehsil for graduate studies in basic and applied botany. In fact, this is the only Botany Department in the Surgana tehsil. Some of the major areas of research in the department are: medicinal botany, pharmacognosy, mycology, evaluation and conservation of plant biodiversity, and nanobiotechnology. The department attracts students for undergraduate studies from within and outside the tehsil. In addition to teaching through modern techniques, seminars, workshops, invited lectures, field visits and botanical excursions are an integral part of academic programme of the department. Within the department, we offer a B.Sc. in Botany. Our strengths in research and teaching support our leadership and participation in interdisciplinary research including Chemistry, Microbiology and Biotechnology.
